The 2017 "FLTRP Cup" English Public Speaking Contest is officially launched on May 18th, 2017, and international students studying in the universities and colleges in China are kindly invited to participate in this year's online contest.
"FLTRP Cup"English Public Speaking Contest
First launched in 2002 by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP), the "FLTRP Cup" English Public Speaking Contest has been a matter of great concern both at home and abroad and has developed into an English public speaking event of the highest standard and with the largest number of participants in China.
The Contest has been attracting students from all over the country who dare to, are willing and ready to accept the challenge. They compete to express themselves; they compete to improve their ability of communication in English.
"FLTRP Cup" English Public Speaking Online Contest
Initiated in 2014, thousands of contestants have participated in the online contest, which is parallel to the offline contest and becomes a significant part of the "FLTRP Cup". The number of those advancing to the National Final from the online contest has risen from 30 in 2015 to 60 in 2016, and in 2017 the number will be 90!
How to Participate
In order to take part in the online contest, contestants must register first and then submit a video of prepared speech on the topic "China, A Global View" (please watch the video at the end of the notice for the contest topic) to the official website (uchallenge.unipus.cn) before the deadline (Oct. 22nd, 2017).
Registration
All participants must register on the official website between May 25th and October 22nd, 2017. The email used for registration must be noted by all participants as it will be the key for logging into official websites for the contest.
Terms of Participation
Participants in the online contest must submit a video. Specific requirements are as follows:
Submission Date：May 25th to October 22nd
Content：A three-minute prepared speech in English on the topic "China, A Global View"
The submitted video by the participants must have a speech title.
Video Quality Requirements：The video submitted must have a clear picture and sound with no background noises, and must not have been processed by any editing tools.
Format Requirements：Most video formats are supported. (see the detailed requirements on the official website)
Size Requirements：The size of the file must be between 50M and 500M.
Phases of the Online Contest
Oct. 23rd- Nov. 6th：Preliminary Online Contest
300 contestants will be selected to the Semi-Final Online Contest.
Nov. 7th - Nov. 13th：Semi-Final Online Contest
150 contestants will be selected to the Final Online Contest.
Nov. 14th-Nov. 20th：Final Online Contest
87 contestants will be selected according to the rank by scores weighted by video scores, Q&A performances, and the votes;
3 contestants who receive the most votes will go straight to the National Final.
Nov.24th：Announcement of the Contest Results
Awards Categories
Grand Prize：The 90 contestants advancing to the National Final in Beijing
First Prize：The 60 contestants who advance to the final of the online contest but do not advance to the national final
Second Prize：The 150 participants who advance to the semi-final of the online contest but do not advance to the final of the online contest
