There is no denying that beliefs, agency as well as identity in foreign language learning and teaching explores the phenomena of believing (or giving personal meanings), acting, and identifying (or identity construction), and the interconnectedness of these phenomena in the learning and teaching of English and other foreign languages. The notions of self and identity have generated a considerable amount of literature, their relationship to language also being the subject of numerous conceptual and research papers. We should still ponder over the relationship between identity perceptions, declared learner achievement and teacher perceptions.
